The Black Tornado (2-1) committed eight errors and allowed three earned runs by the senior-laden Wildcats, who scored at least one run in all but one inning in improving to 3-0 entering Monday’s opener of the Crater Spring Break Invitational. “We just didn’t play good baseball defensively so we didn’t give our pitchers any opportunity to get into any real rhythm,” said Tornado head coach Brett Wolfe. Greyson Wolff was 3-for-4 and Dakota Adams 2-for-3 with three RBIs to pace North Medford, which led 3-2 through three innings but couldn’t contain the Wildcats from there. Tate Cowden had a solo home run in the second for his first round-tripper of the season. Westview’s Donovan Baldocci was 2-for-4 with one run and fellow senior Jayden Hanna went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. EAGLE POINT SPLITS : At Yreka, Eagle Point dropped the first of two games in the Gold Nugget Tournament to Sutter Union, 11-9, then rebounded with a 3-2 victory over Lassen of Susanville, Calif. Against Sutter Union, Ryan Lorenz led the Eagles (1-2) with two hits, two runs and one RBI. Dylan Marsh added two hits and one RBI and Bennett Rodgers also collected two hits from the leadoff spot. Eagle Point scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie in the win against Lassen. Lorenz had one of just two Eagle Point hits, scored twice and had three stolen bases. Rodgers and Johnathan Wilson knocked in runs for the Eagles. PHOENIX 12, SUTTON 2 : At Yreka, Phoenix used seven hits and four walks to score 10 runs in the fifth inning to register its first victory of the season against the Chico, Calif., school in the Gold Nugget Tournament. The Pirates (1-2) received two-run singles from Kyle Botermans, Garrett Truex and Brennan Watts to spark the big inning. Thomas Skaff, the Pirates’ No. 9 hitter, had three hits and three steals, while Truex also had three hits and Watts added two hits and two RBIs. Jack West and Cade Wager had two hits each for the Challengers (0-4) in the opener. In Game 2, Cascade Christian’s Trenton Palmer collected two hits and three RBIs while Chase Wager had a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Brock Weitzel banged out five hits for Klamath Union in the first game and Bill Miller homered in each contest for the Pelicans.
