The first of the bunch was reported at 2:17 p.m. Saturday at a Central Point apartment complex in the 1000 block of Sunrise Way. Jackson County Fire District No. 3 battalion chief Myron Harvey said the fire had roared to life on a building's exterior near a bush and was spreading to several units. The district responded with four engines and more than a dozen firefighters to combat the flames. Firefighters evacuated the complex and were able to have the fire knocked down in about 30 minutes, Harvey said. Crews had to remain on scene to chase additional burns that had worked their way into the attic space and some interior walls for several hours, however. No one was injured and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Some residents have been allowed back into their homes, though others remained displaced Sunday, Harvey said. Medford Fire-Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at 10:19 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Seroba Circle to find about 10 feet of fence burning. An illegal firework, allegedly set off by a 16-year-old boy, started the fire. Battalion chief Erin Sawall said crews from an engine and a brush rig were able to knock down the flames before they spread to any structures. The 16-year-old was cited for reckless burning, according to a release from Medford police. Medford Fire also knocked down a grass fire just past midnight Sunday at St. Frances Drive and Farmington Avenue, at the former Cedar Links Golf Course, in east Medford. Two brush rigs, two engines and 12 firefighters were able to snuff the blaze at 1½ acres, Sawall said. Fire District No. 3 crews responded to another fireworks-sparked blaze in the 600 block of Andrea Way in Eagle Point shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday, following reports of flames roaring in a juniper tree that was close to a home. Neighbors had the blaze mostly extinguished with a garden hose by the time engines arrived on scene. The flames did not spread to the house.
