Tornado ties Sprague on Vilarinos goal SALEM Freshman Kelly Vilarino scored the lone goal for North Medford to bring the Black Tornado into a 1-1 tie with Sprague on Saturday. Sprague went ahead in the first half on a penalty kick and held the lead until Vilarino evened things up in the 65th minute. "The girls were focused and worked really hard," said Black Tornado coach Dick Darcy. "I was very pleased with their effort for the first game." North plays six freshman and must endure a tough preseason schedule with games against Corvallis, South Eugene and Bend before its first Southern Oregon Conference game against Roseburg on Sept. 26. Volleyball ROSEBURG WINS TOURNAMENT At Roseburg, with outside hitter Megan Morley and middle Shannon Burmeister leading the way, the Roseburg High volleyball team won a 10-team tournament on their homecourt Saturday. The Indians, who went 4-0 in pool play, defeated Sheldon of Eugene 15-5, 15-6 in the championship match after defeating North Bend 15-10, 15-13 in the semifinals. Morley finished the tournament with 55 kills, while Burmeister had 37.   Obituaries | Sports | Business | Classifieds |  Tempo | Prime Times | So Oregon Sites | Outdoor Journal | Subscribe | Contact | Movies | Advertise | Real Estate Showcase | Archive  | Editorials | Letters to the editor | Religion | Wake-up Call | NIE | Cyber Chef | Job Network | So Oregon Weather | WSJ Northwest | Forums | AP Wire | AP Money | F.A.Q. | Awards Ottaway Newspapers, Inc.
