Adrian Martinez, 28, remained hospitalized late Wednesday at Rogue Valley Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition, according to a nursing supervisor. Martinez was apparently stabbed in the upper torso with a kitchen knife Tuesday night during an altercation with James Lee McConnell, 28, of Grants Pass. McConnell was visiting a woman at her home in the 1200 block of Queens Branch Road when Martinez showed up sometime before 7:45 p.m., Jackson County sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said. Martinez "was not invited" to the home, said Puckett, who described Martinez and the woman as "an estranged couple." No arrests have been made in connection with the case. Puckett said detectives are looking into the possibility that McConnell may have stabbed Martinez in an act of self-defense. Martinez left the woman’s home in a vehicle following the stabbing. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance a short time later, Puckett said.
