With the win, Mount Hood took the four-game weekend series, 3-1. The Cardinals extended on a two-run lead with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Southern Oregon came up with two in the ninth. Matt Smith started a two-out rally with a single and moved to third following consecutive walks to Blake St. Onge and Derek Draper. Advertisement Eric Beasly drew another walk to force in a run and St. Onge scored Southern Oregon’s final run on a wild pitch. Ken Halpin put the RiverDogs (19-11) on the board in the sixth. He was hit by a pitch, stole second and third base then came home on a Phil Ouellette groundout. Draper led the RiverDogs (19-11) with three hits in four at-bats. Southern Oregon closes out the season next weekend with a three-game set against the Humboldt All-Stars. S.O. RiverDogs......................000 001 002 — 3 6 1 Mt. Volleyball OREGON VOLLEYBALL FESTIVAL — Team Garfield helped close out play at the second annual tournament by winning the advanced-level, coed format crown at Hawthorne Park. Garfield took out Eight-Legged Volleyball, 21-18, 21-18. The Garfield squad is comprised of Southern Oregon University volleyball assistant Jamie Rosenthal, former SOU All-American Kristina Matchett, Ashland’s Dustin Brown, Central Point’s Sean Warner and Alyn Booth from Grants Pass. In coed intermediate, A-List needed three sets to defeat the Outlanders before taking the title with a 14-21, 21-13, 21-9 victory. A-List is made up of Dene Anderberg, his daughters Carrie and Stephanie, cousin Terrie Anderberg and Chad Moffit. The two-day tournament was a 4-on-4 grass event that featured over 100 players.
