SOU sets its sights on Linfield Coming off a 31-0 thrashing of Azusa Pacific last Saturday, the fifth-ranked Southern Oregon University football team looks to continue its climb up the rankings when they travel to McMinnville to tangle with Linfield College on Saturday. The Raiders enter the contest winners in nine of their past 11 outings dating back to the final game of the 1998 season, including a 40-10 win over the NCAA Division III Wildcats last year at Maxwell Field. The game starts a grueling stretch of the season schedule in which the Raiders play only one home game over the next seven weeks. SOU looks to make it two in a row over Linfield for the first time ever but trails the all-time series 28-8 while Linfield continues its quest to extend its national-record consecutive winning season streak to 45. SOU�s swarming defense, which held Azusa to 59 net yards, looks to contain the Wildcats senior quarterback Curt Musser. Musser, a former North Medford High signal caller, threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-30 season-opening win over Menlo College last Saturday. "Linfield�s offensive unit is very experienced, and their senior quarterback (Musser) is one of the best in the Northwest," said SOU coach Jeff Olson in a release from the school. "The defense has a lot of new faces, but Linfield is known for its toughness, and we expect that tradition to continue. "Playing against the tradition of Linfield is tough enough, and playing in McMinnville makes it even more difficult." Offensively, the Raiders hope for another stellar outing by quarterback Dan Walters, who threw for 139 yards and two TD�s. Redshirt freshman tailback Dusty McGrorty leads the SOU ground attack, which totalled 94 yards against Azusa, 64 coming from McGrorty. Kick-off is 2:30 p.m. at Maxwell Field.
