Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend August 27, 2005 Teens get lifetime label of ‘sex offender’ By JACK MORAN Mail Tribune Three teens convicted of taking sexually explicit photos of an unconscious girl last year at a party will be registered sex offenders for the rest of their lives, a Jackson County judge ruled Friday. Originally arrested on Measure 11 allegations that could have landed each in prison for nearly six years, the three teens pleaded to lesser charges in May and were ordered Friday to spend 20 days in jail with credit for time served. The teens — Adam Bauer, L.C. Graham and Nicholas Daggitt — all were convicted of second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse, a felony. "You will be registered as a sex offender for the rest of your life," Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Lorenzo Mejia told each of the teens. As part of their punishment, all three will serve two years of probation and attend sex-offender treatment evaluations, the judge said. Advertisement A Jackson County grand jury in January indicted the teens on charges of first-degree encouraging child sex abuse, a Measure 11 offense. Police arrested Graham, 16, and Daggitt, 17, at North Medford High School. Both were lodged in the Jackson County Jail along with Bauer, 17, who was taken into custody at Crater High School. Investigators said they launched an investigation last September after Adam Bauer showed the 16-year-old female victim photos of her genitals and breasts that had been taken at a June 2004 party. One photo showed a male’s hand touching the girl’s exposed breast. The girl obtained the photos and showed them to a high school counselor, leading school officials to contact police. The victim told detectives she blacked out after drinking beer with the teens and Bauer’s 24-year-old brother, Dominic, at the Bauer home in the 200 block of West Gregory Road in Central Point. "These people were all friends," said Carl Caplan, a Medford attorney who represented Daggitt in his case. The girl was missing her pants when she awoke the next morning at another friend’s home. She told investigators she had a salty aftertaste in her mouth, which could indicate she was slipped a "date-rape drug," police said. The girl has since moved from the area because of embarrassment over the incident, investigators said. The teens were prosecuted as adults because they were indicted on Measure 11 charges. As part of their plea agreement, all three teens will testify against Dominic Bauer in a trial scheduled for October. Bauer remains held in the Jackson County Jail on four counts of first-degree encouraging child sex abuse and two counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct.
