The 23-year-old recently moved into her own apartment with her 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son. Some housewares would help the fledgling family to feel at home. New clothing, plus a few playthings for the children, would brighten their holidays. On the mother’s wish list are some bright throw rugs, kitchen and bath towels and other household goods that she could purchase with a gift card to Ross Dress for Less. She would appreciate jeans in size 13, medium-size tops and black Bearpaw boots, Sketchers or another brand of tennis shoes in size 7½. Pursuing her high-school diploma, she walks or takes bus transportation. Dropping out of high school, the young mom used drugs until child-welfare workers intervened. CASA of Jackson County advocates for the woman’s children and supports her parenting efforts. Her only support from family disappeared with her beloved grandmother’s death. Yet the woman maintains a positive outlook by drawing, singing and listening to music. Some nail polish would give her a small indulgence. Her daughter also loves to draw and do anything creative, and she's hoping for a new doll this Christmas. The girl wears size 4/5T clothing and size 8 shoes. Both children love books. The boy also enjoys playing with dinosaurs and trucks. He wears size 2T clothing. CASA trains volunteers to be voices for abused, neglected and vulnerable children who are wards of the court. The nonprofit organization raises community awareness and responsibility with the goal of reducing child abuse and neglect. To help, call CASA’s Deborah King at 541-734 2272.
