Sierra Club won't appeal Mount Ashland ruling The Rogue Group Sierra Club has decided not to appeal a judge's decision permitting construction of a new sewage treatment plant on Mount Ashland. The club's board of directors decided against appealing a ruling by U.S. District Judge Robert E. Jones that denied the club's request for an injunction to block construction of the plant, said Charlotte Holzkamper, chairwoman of the Rouge Group. Holzkamper said Friday that an appeal would do little good now. "It's sort of moot." she said. "The day after the ruling, they were up there with chainsaws. Now they've dug a big gouge on the high side of the mountain. We'd have had to raise more money to hire expert witnesses. We just felt it was done deal." In its request for an injunction, the Rogue Group had argued that construction of the project, tied to an expansion of the ski area on the mountain, violated environmental law, including the presentation of a range of alternatives.
