His painting/papering business was well known in the Rogue Valley. Richard was born August 16, 1924 in San Jose, Calif., to Herman and Ebba Westergard. During WWII he was in the U.S. Army 98th Division that made a beach landing September 27, 1945 on mainland Japan at Wakayama. Richard loved to be a greeter at church and help set up the church potlucks. His gentle smile is greatly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Juanita Westergard of Medford, Ore.; daughters, Kathy Finley (Glen) of Central Point and Judy Harvey (Bruce) of Medford, Ore; brother, Wes Westergard of Talent, Ore.; grandsons, Jim Pullen of Eagle Point, Ore., Shaen Harvey and Andrew Harvey of Dayton, Ohio; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3677 South Stage Road, Medford 97501 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maranatha Volunteers International, 990 Reserve Dr. Suite 100, Roseville, CA 95678.
