PREP ROUNDUP Early burst carries Crater boys to 4-0 victory over Hidden Valley CENTRAL POINT -- Crater scored three goals in the first three minutes and defeated Hidden Valley 4-0 Thursday in non-conference boys soccer. Ben Nystrom scored two of the Comets' goals, while Pete Kashevarof assisted on two. Cody Holm knocked in the first goal for Crater, with an assist from Kashevarof. Shortly thereafter, Jordan Kell made it 2-0 with an assist from Nick Malone. Hidden Valley had 13 shots on goal compared to 10 for Crater. EAGLE POINT 3, MARSHFIELD 2 -- At Eagle Point, Brack Caughler and P.R. Buractaon each scored first-half goals for the Eagles. Jeremy Rossi added Eagle Point's third goal, an unassisted effort, in the second half. Brandon Johnson and Drew Pierson had assists in the first half. Matt Lehman and Edgar Homan scored for Marshfield. ASHLAND 1, HENLEY 0 -- At Klamath Falls, Ashland's Jim Kinard scored the decisive goal in the first half to give the Grizzlies the non-conference win. Kinard got the ball at midfield and knocked home the goal from the left corner. ROSEBURG 1, CHURCHILL 0 -- At Roseburg, Vincent Garcia scored in the 46th minute to give Roseburg the victory. Justin Rinaker assisted on the goal. NORTH VALLEY 2, COTTAGE GROVE 1 -- At Cottage Grove, John Hendley scored the go-ahead goal at the 52-minute mark off an assist from Clayton Rochholz to give North Valley the non-conference win. Brendan Phillips put the Knights on the board first at the 22-minute mark. Cottage Grove evened the match on a rebound off a corner kick. Girls soccer ROSEBURG 2, CHURCHILL 0 -- At Churchill, Rachael Stribling and Hedda Gardsjord provided the offense in Roseburg's non-conference win. Stribling scored an unassisted goal at the 75-minute mark to give the Indians the 1-0 lead. Gardsjord added the final goal just four minutes later, scoring on an assist from Stribling. Churchill outshot Roseburg 19-15. Volleyball CASCADE CHRISTIAN 6-15-15, GLENDALE 15-1-9 -- At Central Point, Christine McCandless served nine straight points in the second game as the Challengers rallied in the non-conference season opener. McCandless had five kills for the match and setter Whitney Brookins had 30 assists. Bethany Weaver played fine defense, and Shelly Nicholson had a solid all-around match. BUTTE FALLS 15-15, TRIAD 8-5 -- At Klamath Falls, Butte Falls opened the season with a Skyline A League Southern Division match against Triad, a new school playing its first year of varsity competition. For the Loggers, Jackie Lyon had five kills, Liz McLauchlan four aces and Jessica Dunlap six assists. Of Butte Falls' 30 points, 13 came on aces. HIDDEN VALLEY JAMBOREE -- At Murphy, Phoenix won with a 5-0 record. The Pirates beat Illinois Valley 15-4, Hidden Valley 15-7, South Umpqua 15-8, St. Mary's 15-10, Rogue River 15-7.
