Matthew Duck, age and address unknown, was arrested Thursday evening following the chase. According to one eyewitness, the vehicle was stolen from a downtown Yreka parking lot. Scanner traffic indicated that the high-speed chase began on Main Street in Yreka, where Duck was said to be driving in excess of 80 mph. He traveled north along Highway 263, at times driving over 100 mph, and eventually merged onto Interstate 5 northbound at Collier Rest Stop. Duck continued north for a while before changing direction and heading back south. He exited the freeway at the Bailey Hill exit near Hornbrook before merging back onto northbound I-5. From there, he traveled north into Oregon. Near Ashland, Duck turned onto Highway 66 eastbound. According to Oregon State Police Sgt. Cliff Barden, police set up spike strips near the Klamath County border, where they blew out the tires of the stolen vehicle. After the vehicle stopped, Duck led officers on a short foot chase before he was taken into custody. Duck was being held in Klamath County.
