November 10. 2014 2:46PM Driver crashes after attempting to pass on Hwy. 140 A driver had to be extricated with jaws-of-life equipment from her SUV after she crashed while trying to pass another vehicle. Samantha Rose Murray, 30, of Central Point was driving on Highway 140 near milepost 20 when she attempted to pass Jacky Lee Naylor, 51, of Tulelake at about 6 p.m. Sunday, according to Oregon State Police. Naylor told police Murray attempted to pass him but was forced to veer back because of oncoming traffic. He estimated she was one car length ahead of him and 30 feet from oncoming traffic when she veered to avoid a head-on collision and then lost control. Murray over-corrected and left the roadway just prior to hitting a guard rail. Her SUV continued about 30 yards, rolled over and came to rest on the passenger side of the vehicle, according to OSP. "She went off the road and rolled two or three times. We had to cut her out of the vehicle through the roof," said Lake Creek Rural Fire Department Fire Chief Dennis Keife. Murray was transported by a Mercy Flights ambulance to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Keife said. She was listed in fair condition at the hospital on Monday, said Lauren Van Sickle, senior public relations specialist for Asante.
