Getaway car took on unwanted intruder Police arrested two people Thursday after a wild shoplifting case in which a store employee chasing a suspect fell into the waiting getaway car as the driver sped off. It all started at 2:15 p.m. when a woman shoplifted three Sony Playstations and two leather jackets from Costco Wholesale Club, 3639 Highway 62 in Medford. Medford police Lt. Tim George said store employee Dale Allen Blakely, 45, saw the woman leaving through an emergency exit with the merchandise and gave chase. An alleged cohort was waiting outside the exit in a convertible with the motor running. Blakely went to grab the suspects, jumping partway into the car, grappling with a suspect. As the suspects pulled away, Blakely ended up rolling into the car, "and away he goes," George said. Police ended up stopping the convertible about a mile away at Highway 62 and Hilton Road. Blakely suffered some minor scrapes, and was treated at the scene. The $970 worth of stolen property was recovered. Police arrested Joe Merrle Farris, 27, of Grants Pass, on charges of second-degree robbery and first-degree theft. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $25,000 bail. Selma resident Raelene Michele Monk, 22, was arrested on the same charges plus a charge of fourth-degree assault against Blakely, George said. Monk was being held on $30,000 bail.
