Burglars hit new stereo store; loss totals more than $5,000 Burglars cut a hole in a storage room wall and stole more than $5,000 worth of stereo equipment from newly opened Diamond Audio, Medford police said. The burglary was discovered early Thursday. The thieves cut two chain-link fences before sawing through the storage room wall, which had a thin metal exterior and two layers of sheetrock. The hole was just big enough for a person to squeeze through. The business, which opened at 1111 N. Central Ave. two weeks ago, was equipped with a security system but motion detectors were not installed in the storage room and the thieves didn't enter the main store. They left a trail of boxes, fleeing with Pioneer, Orion and JVC equipment, according to co-owner Dean Carson. Carson and partners Ron Anderson and Nick Lumsden said Diamond Audio is the only local stereo shop that sells Orion equipment, so people should be suspicious of anyone trying to sell it. "If Orion stuff shows up somewhere, it's probably ours," said Lumsden. The trio said they knew stereo dealers were common theft targets but were stunned to see that someone had cut through a wall to get in. "We knew it was bound to happen," said Lumsden. "I'm surprised they went this far." Lt. Tim George said it's not too uncommon for burglars to cut through walls. He said the case is under investigation but no arrests have been made.
