We do not hear an outcry from the NFL or its fans that this is an improper response. Why then are accused NFL players allowed to continue working? What a double standard. Is this "winning at whatever price" mentality the proper message we want to convey to our youth? As a young person, what profession would you aspire to or deem more important — the one that accused wife/child beaters are allowed to continue performing, or the one that puts its employees "on the bench" until cleared of all charges? George Duran, Medford Re-elect Alan Bates I am writing to support the re-election of Sen. Alan Bates. As the mother of two teens active in school sports, I am impressed to find among his accomplishments SB721, increasing the well-being of young athletes through concussion safety rules. In my work in human services, I witness daily benefits of the senator’s support of such issues as expansion of health care coverage, enhancement of SNAP and WIC programs and his commitment to education to promote job development. In contrast to his opponent, who seems to be running a one-note campaign, Senator Bates demonstrates a comprehensive vision for the greater good of our region and our entire state. Please join me in ensuring that Southern Oregon will keep experienced, all-inclusive representation by voting for Sen. Alan Bates. Amanda Krug, Medford Talbert is most qualified In the fall, Jackson County will have an independent candidate running for county commissioner, position 3, Kevin Talbert. I have observed Kevin's proven leadership, administrative skills, bugetary knowledge and the gift of working with a broad spectrum of people effectively, aided by his ability to truly listen to all viewpoints. No one, in my opinion, has been more qualified to serve as a Jackson County commissioner. Thank you, Kevin, for running. Patricia Parish Kuhn, Medford Run your own life I am a rare beast: a Christian who is glad to see marriage equality being gradually accepted nationwide. For someone to say that my son and his partner should not be allowed to get married because it is against their religion is equivalent to me saying you can't have a cookie because I'm on a diet. Being a Christian doesn't mean you get to run everyone else's life. You get to run your own. Noni McCrillis, Phoenix We need change I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want to vote blindly when it comes to this year’s election. Alan Bates isn’t doing his constituents any favors by refusing to explain his record in office. With our economy in shambles, I’m glad someone has the courage to stand up and tell the truth about why we can’t find any jobs around here. I am voting for Dave Dotterrer, the only candidate in this race that recognizes we need a change, and fast.
