And McKenzie Hilmer and Lauren Wilson passed with flying colors Tuesday as the Black Tornado downed Roseburg, 7-1, in girls tennis at North. The Black Tornado tandem romped past Roseburg’s Galaxy Slight and Michelle Davis, 6-0, 6-1. Hilmer, a senior, and Wilson, a junior, finished second in the state last year. "They’re the best team in the district," said Tornado coach Dale Jensen. "The next-best team is probably the team they just beat." Advertisement Slight went to state last year in doubles, and Davis played singles. But they were no match for their motivated foes. "Their goal this year is to win state," Jensen said of his duo. "They’ve both been talking about it a lot and working hard." Jensen was also pleased with his young team that showed no shortage of spunk. Two Tornado singles players and two doubles teams lost their first set but rallied to win their matches. "I was impressed," said Jensen. "We’re young and have a lot of growing to do."
