Local Roundup: OIT downs SOU in volleyball KLAMATH FALLS - Oregon Tech claimed the final two games to close out a Cascade Conference victory over rival Southern Oregon in women's volleyball action Wednesday night. The Raiders (13-5, 8-4) were led by sophomore outside hitter Kristina Matchett, a Klamath Falls native who was SOU's first NAIA player of the week last week. Matchett pounded 21 kills but also committed seven of the Raiders' 30 hitting errors. Cross Country GRANTS PASS - The Ashland girls and South Medford boys cross country teams claimed meet titles Wednesday in four-squad, 5,000-meter races at Riverside West All Sports Park. The Grizzly girls were led by Therese McCaffrey and Gretchen Buettner, who finished third and fifth, respectively. Sam Kezer of Crater won the girls individual title with a time of 20 minutes, 16.92 seconds. In boys action, the Panthers were paced by Shaun Olson and Alando Pacas, the first- and second-place finishers. Water Polo ASHLAND - Thanks to a 9-7 victory over South Medford at the Southern Oregon University pool Wednesday night, the Ashland girls water polo team is now 7-0 in the Southern Oregon Conference. Senior captain Elisa Jessop, senior Leela Brightenburg, junior Keely Zodrow and sophomore Michelle Smith each scored two goals for the Grizzlies.
