He passed away peacefully July 8, 2015. He was raised in Dayton, Ore., graduating from high school in 1949. After graduation he attended the University of Oregon and not wanting to be drafted he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving four years. After his discharge from the service he returned to the University of Oregon and belonged to the Sigma Chi fraternity. While attending the U of O he played basketball until he graduated in 1957. Jack has three children from a previous marriage; Joni, Doug, and Jennifer. On March 19, 1975 Jack married Evelyn (Evie) Hubbard. Jack and Evie celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year. Upon marrying Evie, Jack joined the large close-knit extended Hubbard family and enjoyed many years of family BBQ's, pool parties, and camping trips Jack worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years. After retiring he enjoyed a permanent part-time job as a court bailiff at the Jackson County Circuit Court. He was active and athletic, participating in many sports, including golf, bowling, fishing, and water skiing. He was also an avid arm-chair sports enthusiast, especially when it came to his U of O Ducks. Go Ducks! He loved a good game of cards and enjoyed traveling to the Oregon coast, Eagle Crest, Palm Springs, and Hawaii. He played the piano and sang in various church choirs. Jack was a long-standing member of the Rogue Valley Country Club where he scored a hole-in-one. Above all, Jack was a people person. He never met a stranger and his wife and kids can attest that you couldn't go anywhere with him, without bumping into someone he knew. Jack is survived by his wife, Evelyn, Medford, Ore; and children, Joni Sherman, Medford, Ore.; Doug (Carmen) Sherman, Newcastle, Calif; and Jennifer (Michael) Strong, Eugene, Ore.; grandsons, Willy and Brandon sherman; granddaughter, Rachel Arappagis; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his Hubbard family including his "favorite mother-in-law" Goldie (their personal joke.) Jack was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother Bill Sherman. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 25, 2015 at the Bethel Church at vista Pointe, 4245 Vista Pointe Dr., Medford, Ore. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. He loved and was loved by all.
