Karl Taylor, in intensive care at Providence Medical Center Sunday night, was run over by the right rear wheel of the Toyota pickup, in which he was a passenger. Taylor suffered from lacerations and possible broken bones, said OSP Sgt. Jeff Proulx. Despite the severity of the fall at freeway speeds, Proulx said the injuries weren’t "as bad as you might think." Advertisement One lane of the freeway was closed for about a half-hour as Taylor was airlifted to the hospital. The Toyota was traveling in the fast lane when the incident occurred, said Proulx. "He decided to crawl out of the passenger window to get the attention of a passing vehicle and fell to the pavement," he said. The pickup, which wasn’t damaged, was towed away because the driver, Erin O’Neal, 33, of Grants Pass had outstanding warrants, said Proulx. No other vehicles were involved in the incident. The other passenger, Sammy Williams, 31, of Central Point, fled the scene for an unknown reason, said Proulx. "He ran, and we don’t know where he is," said Proulx. "But we know where he lives." According to witness accounts, there appeared to be no foul play during the incident. "At this point, we don’t have any crime," he said. "But we haven’t totally ruled it out." Proulx said the driver wasn’t intoxicated, but alcohol appeared to be a factor in Taylor’s behavior. "There was some intoxication," said Proulx.
