OPERATION RAP IT UP Former South Medford soccer player, accomplice sentenced in federal gun buying case Comment By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Follow @@mtcrimebeat MailTribune.com By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Follow @@mtcrimebeat Posted Jan. 14, 2016 at 7:07 PM Updated Jan 15, 2016 at 2:13 PM By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Follow @@mtcrimebeat Posted Jan. 14, 2016 at 7:07 PM Updated Jan 15, 2016 at 2:13 PM » Social News A Medford woman and an Ivory Coast national who used to play soccer at South Medford High School were sentenced Thursday on federal weapons charges. Dominique Seth Agnimel, 26, was sentenced to two years, three months in federal prison and will be deported after he serves his sentence. Kalina Baines, 29, was sentenced to five years federal probation. (Corrected) Agnimel admitted in September to accepting $1,000 from an informant to obtain a SCCY handgun and a Taurus .40 caliber handgun. Agnimel knew the informant was a convicted felon, court records said. Agnimel gave money to Baines to purchase two firearms for $685 at Medford Pawn, and she falsely indicated on the application that she was the weapon's buyer, court documents state. When Baines and Agnimel met the informant to deliver the firearms, they got another $200. Agnimel and Baines were among 29 people arrested in a Southern Oregon crime investigation known as "Operation Rap it Up" in 2014. The operation broke up a ring that authorities said had put guns in the hands of violent criminals in Southern Oregon. The investigation began after an accidental shooting in 2013 that killed 5-year-old Alayna Bobbitt of Grants Pass. Jon Meyer Jr. discharged a fully automatic rifle when he used the weapon as a crutch to get off of a couch, and the bullets hit the little girl in an apartment upstairs. Meyer is in prison on a manslaughter charge for the crime. Agnimel's sentence will be served concurrently with felony charges he pleaded guilty to in Jackson County Circuit Court in September. Agnimel previously pleaded guilty to third-degree assault, racketeering, unlawful sale of firearms to a felon, delivery of heroin and methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, first-degree child neglect and first-degree theft. A sentencing hearing on Agnimel's and Baines' charges in Circuit Court is scheduled for Jan. 22. As part of his federal sentence, Agnimel agreed to pay $8,520 in restitution to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, including $6,020 in investigative costs and $2,500 in restitution. Baines must pay $2,500. Agnimel played soccer for South Medford High School and was named to the Southwest Conference all-star team in fall 2006.
