Sheri was born October 4, 1946 in Racine, Wis. to Marvin and Murrella York. She principally grew up in southern California and graduated from Ganesha High School in 1964. She attended college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she met and married Roger Akkerman. They moved to Siskiyou County in 1973 and raised their three children on the 3­J Ranch in the Bogus area. Sheri continued to farm and ranch in Siskiyou County while working at the Klamath National Forest Service Yreka office from 1988 until she retired in 2009. She relocated to Central Point in 2009 where she met new neighbors and friends who added joy and happiness to her life. Sheri loved to do embroidery and was a gifted seamstress. She was a Sewing Leader in 4­H and made a variety of clothes for her family and friends that ranged from school clothes to maternity outfits to wedding attire. During the holidays, Sheri loved to make treats and Kringle for her friends and family. Sheri is survived by her three children, son, Darin Akkerman and his wife, Angela of Montague; daughter, Michele Johnson and her husband, Tim of Etna; and daughter, Tanya Akkerman of Sacramento; her grandchildren, Heather and Dave Akkerman of Montague; DJ Akkerman of Pensacola, Fla.; Jaylee, Keith, James, and Karl Johnson of Etna; and Kristen Leventon of Weed; one great-­grandchild, Harper Akkerman of Pensacola, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves many loving memories to be cherished by her family and friends. Sheri was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Brad York. It was her wish not to have any services. In sincere appreciation, the family requests any memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN, 38101­9929.
