Holidays aren't all the same Do other countries celebrate the major holidays? I know they don't celebrate the Fourth of July or Thanksgiving, but maybe have their own Independence Day? A friend in South Korea told me they honored Mother's Day and was surprised we did too. Always wondered about this. --Audrey B., Medford Holidays do vary from nation to nation, Audrey. Thanksgiving Day in Canada, for example, is celebrated on Oct. 11. Mexico celebrates its Independence Day on Sept. 16. Another holiday in Korea is Buddha's Birthday on April 8. The date also is celebrated in Japan. Other holidays around the world include St. Patrick's Day in Ireland on March 17, Dragon Boat Festival in China on June 18, Midsummer Eve on June 23 in Baltic and Scandinavian countries, German Unification Day on Oct. 3 in Germany, and Guy Fawkes Day on Nov. 5 in Great Britain.
