By Sam Wheeler Mail Tribune September 27. 2014 2:54PM Man arrested for selling fake crystal Levi Wear A Medford man was arrested Friday for allegedly trying to sell an unknown crystal-like substance as methamphetamine while under the influence of the real thing, police said. Levi Michael Jonathan Wear, 27, of Medford, is lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, unlawful delivery of imitation controlled substance and a parole violation for possession of methamphetamine. Due to the parole violation, he cannot be bailed out, jail records indicate. "I can't tell you exactly what the substance was, it just didn't test positive for methamphetamine," said Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau.  A Medford police officer contacted Wear at about 8 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Court and Edwards streets, and after determining he was under the influence of methamphetamine placed him under arrest due to a violation of his parole, Budreau said.  While Wear was being searched in order to be lodged in jail, the officer discovered Wear was carrying nearly an ounce of the unknown crystal-like substance and two meth pipes, Budreau said. Further investigation revealed Wear was allegedly selling the pseudo bag of drugs as methamphetamine, which is a crime in Oregon, Budreau said. Unlawful delivery of imitation controlled substance is a class A misdemeanor in Oregon, according to the Oregon Revised Statutes.  "If you're standing in your kitchen looking at your rock salt thinking you're going to go make a few extra bucks, you probably shouldn't do that," Budreau said.  Reach reporter Sam Wheeler at 541-776-4471 or [email protected].
