COLLEGE FOOTBALL Grasu says he'll be back this season Comment By Ryan Thorburn Eugene Register-Guard MailTribune.com By Ryan Thorburn Eugene Register-Guard Posted Nov. 19, 2014 at 6:23 PM By Ryan Thorburn Eugene Register-Guard Posted Nov. 19, 2014 at 6:23 PM » Social News Hroniss Grasu rides again. Oregon’s All-American center had everyone’s attention as he wheeled his way out of Tuesday’s practice with his injured left leg propped on a medical scooter. “I get 40 miles per gallon on this thing,” Grasu said upon arrival for his first media interview since being helped off the field during the Ducks’ 51-27 victory at Utah on Nov. 8. “I don’t know the weight limit on it, though, that’s the scary part. When I’m riding around, it kind of shakes a little bit, but it does its job.” Grasu, who said he underwent a “minor” surgical procedure on the injured lower leg, will not be able to play against Colorado on Saturday at Autzen Stadium. The fifth-year senior is still looking forward to the home finale and vows to return to the lineup this season. “It’s not over, I promise,” Grasu said when asked about his status. “I’ll be back wearing a Duck uniform.” It was the second consecutive day the battered offensive line generated some positive news. On Monday Andre Yruretagoyena, the starting right tackle at the start of the season, said he will play against Colorado after missing eight games with his own lower-leg injury. Tyler Johnstone, Jake Fisher and Matt Pierson have also missed games while the Ducks (9-1 overall, 6-1 Pac-12) have stayed in the chase for a conference championship and a possible berth in the College Football Playoff. “The season is not over for me, and it’s not over for the team,” Grasu said. “You can count me out for this game, but I’m doing whatever I can to get back as soon as I can.” Asked about possibly playing in the Nov. 29 Civil War at Oregon State, Grasu smiled and said “day-to-day.” The Ducks have already clinched the North Division and will play in the Pac-12 championship game on Dec. 5 at Santa Clara, Calif. Earlier in the week, starting left guard Hamani Stevens told the Oregonian that Grasu would be out “a couple weeks.” “Dr. Stevens, I heard the prognosis the other day,” coach Mark Helfrich said. “That was interesting. I didn’t know he was a medical doctor.” Redshirt freshman Doug Brenner, who had a couple of low snaps in relief of Grasu at Utah, and Stevens have both been getting time at center during practices. “It’s just little things like the speed of the ball coming back,” Marcus Mariota said of adjusting to a new starter. “It’s nothing too crazy.” Grasu, who has started all 50 games of his career, said he was injured when his cleat got caught on the turf at Rice-Eccles Stadium while he was making a block. Two Utah players and Oregon tight end Pharaoh Brown suffered season-ending leg injuries during the Ducks’ costly victory. “What happened to Pharaoh is crazy, so I think about him every day,” Grasu said of Oregon’s starting tight end, who is recovering at home in Cleveland where his mother is a nurse. “That’s something that is serious to me, this isn’t serious at all to me. I’m going to be back playing for Oregon. It’s going to be really soon; I can’t tell you when. “I can just tell you I’m doing everything I can every single day to get back out there.” Grasu accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 24 in Mobile, Ala.
