DOUGLAS COUNTY 2 killed, 3 injured in head-on crash in Roseburg Comment By Troy Brynelson Roseburg News-Review MailTribune.com By Troy Brynelson Roseburg News-Review Posted Jun. 23, 2015 at 10:49 AM Updated Jun 23, 2015 at 11:10 AM By Troy Brynelson Roseburg News-Review Posted Jun. 23, 2015 at 10:49 AM Updated Jun 23, 2015 at 11:10 AM » Social News A married couple from Roseburg were killed Monday night, and three other people were sent to the hospital, after a head-on crash on Melrose Road. Shortly after 7 p.m., a blue Dodge pickup, driven by 25-year-old Kyle Dean Augustine, of Roseburg, was reportedly heading east near the 2300 block of Melrose Road when it veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a small silver Oldsmobile heading west. The Oldsmobile was driven by 63-year-old James Rammage, and his wife, Diane Rammage, was in the passenger seat. The couple were killed on impact. The crash, which happened just east of Melrose Elementary School, sent both vehicles in the ditch on the north side of the road. One vehicle caught fire after the impact, and both lanes of traffic were closed for at least two hours. Augustine and both of his passengers, Boe Dean Wolleat, 20, and a 16-year-old girl, both of Roseburg, were transported to Mercy Medical Center. Both passengers were treated and released, while Augustine was flown to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. His condition was not available at press time. According to a friend of theirs, the Rammages were both graduates of Roseburg High School. James Rammage graduated in 1969 and Diane Rammage, née Krogel, graduated in 1970. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a criminal investigation is underway, as there is evidence of alcohol use by Augustine. Douglas County Sheriff Sgt. Clayton Ruble, who responded to the scene, said this is the latest in a series of accidents on this stretch of road. “I would say people are driving way too fast on this road,” Ruble said. The setting sun, which has the potential to blind westbound drivers, could also have been a factor, he suggested. “That said, people need to slow down and be a little more cautious,” Ruble said. “Because it does blind people.” By Troy Brynelson Roseburg News-Review MailTribune.com By Troy Brynelson Roseburg News-Review Posted Jun. 23, 2015 at 10:49 AM Updated Jun 23, 2015 at 11:10 AM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
