Woman struck with car in dispute over parking space Comment By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Follow @@mtcrimebeat MailTribune.com By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Follow @@mtcrimebeat Posted May. 26, 2016 at 1:53 PM Updated May 26, 2016 at 3:27 PM By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Follow @@mtcrimebeat Posted May. 26, 2016 at 1:53 PM Updated May 26, 2016 at 3:27 PM » Social News What reportedly began with a man angry about a parking space Wednesday ended with felony charges and a woman in the emergency room. Kevin Ray Lacer, 61, was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on more than $1 million bail after he allegedly struck a woman with his SUV in the WinCo parking lot early Wednesday afternoon. He then fled the scene and allegedly headed to another store, according to an affidavit filed in Jackson County Circuit Court. At about 1:20 p.m., Lacer's older model Ford Explorer struck Marybeth Gresham, 24, who was walking toward the grocery store with her husband. The impact caused Gresham to fall back toward the SUV, which struck her elbow and upper leg, police said. She went to the emergency room Wednesday, where she was treated for injuries that included bruising and a torn knee ligament, court documents said. Surveillance video allegedly showed Lacer hitting Gresham and leaving the scene. Police located Lacer at his home Wednesday evening after Gresham provided the SUV's license plate number. Upon questioning, Lacer allegedly told police he was upset with the couple because they took his parking spot, then swerved toward them in an attempt to cut them off, which is when he hit Gresham. Lacer, of the 800 block of Stewart Avenue, faces felony charges of third-degree assault and failure to perform the duties of a driver to injured persons, a hit-and-run charge, documents showed. He was arraigned on the charge Thursday, where he entered a plea of not guilty. Court records showed Lacer pleaded guilty to methamphetamine possession in 2015. He was sentenced to 40 hours community service as part of a conditional discharge, which court records show he'd failed to complete as of March.
