Alexander Moore Hamilton II Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 27, 2016 at 2:00 AM Posted May. 27, 2016 at 2:00 AM » Social News Alexander Moore Hamilton II passed away peacefully May 18, 2016 at his home. Born October 9, 1934 son of Alexander Moore Hamilton, one of the first postmasters in Medford and Eva Nealon Hamilton, one of the first female reporters for the Mail Tribune, in Medford, Ore. Alex was raised in Medford and later attended Oregon State University from 1952 to 1955. He then transferred to George Washington University in Washington DC where he graduated in 1957 with a major in history and a minor in political science. While working on Capitol Hill for Senator Wayne Morse, Alex met and married Elizabeth Jane McDowell of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Alex went on to attend South Dakota School of Law, and after passing the bar, worked in a law firm for two years before moving back to Oregon in 1962. Alex spent the majority of his professional life in Newport, Oregon, working first as a title examiner, then as plant manager for Ticor Title, formerly known as Pioneer National Title and Trust. After serving 27 years in the business, he retired in 1989. Alex met and married his second wife, Bette June Hogan in September 1985, and they lived on the Oregon coast for years before moving to Sisters, Bend, and eventually Eagle Point, Oregon. Alex and Bette spent many years traveling to places all around the world, Hawaii being their favorite location. Alex was an active member in various business and civic organizations, to include acting Newport Municipal Judge, Rotary Club President, OSU Alumni Association, Newport Bank Board, as well as a member of Phi Delta Phi (SD) and Chi Phi Fraternity (OSU). Alex lived life well and enjoyed travel, classical music, and most of all, the great outdoors. When not in the office, he was fishing, deer or duck hunting, camping, looking for glass floats, or skiing. He spent every recreational moment outside, and had an appreciation for nature that he passed on to all those who knew and loved him. His family and friends knew Alex to be a man who was direct: One always knew where he stood on matters. His candor was a trait that characterized his interactions. He will be greatly missed. Alex is survived by his second wife Bette June Hogan and her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Diane Hogan. Alex also leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bruce Samson; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Gretchen Hamilton; his five children, whom he raised with Elizabeth; Alex Hamilton III, Allison Hamilton Burton, Mary Liz Bunch, Melanie Hamilton, and Lori Stam; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Medford, Ore.
