Payton hit a jumper that put Oregon State up 59-57 with 2:12 left in overtime. Portland's Thomas Van Der Mars missed the first of two free throws with 1:08 to go, and Oregon State's Jarmal Reid added a key block to keep the Beavers in front. Olaf Schaftenaar and Payton added free throws to stretch the Beavers' lead to 63-58 and the Pilots couldn't catch up. Victor Robbins led all scorers with 18 points for the Beavers (5-2), who won their second straight. Bobby Sharp led the Pilots with 12 points (6-2). After trailing by as many as seven points earlier in the half, Oregon State pulled ahead 45-44 on Langston Morris-Walker's layup with 6:55 left. He padded the lead with a jumper, but Sharp hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 47 with 5:04 left. The teams wrestled for the lead the rest of the way. Robbins made a pair of layups to put the Beavers in front, but Alec Wintering's layup with 28 seconds to go tied it at 53 and sent it to overtime. The Pilots were without their top scorer, guard Kevin Bailey, because of an injured left foot. Bailey was averaging 13.1 points. NO. 2 WISCONSIN 49, MARQUETTE 38: At Milwaukee, Josh Gasser scored 12 points on four 3-pointers and 7-footer Frank Kaminsky added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Wisconsin. The Badgers (8-1) shot 32 percent while contending with a 2-3 zone defense by the undersized Golden Eagles, who don’t have a starter taller than 6-7. NO. 3 ARIZONA 66, NO. 9 GONZAGA 63, OT: At Tucson, Ariz., T.J. McConnell scored six of his 12 points in overtime and Arizona held on for the win after Byron Wesley air-balled the first of three missed free throws with 3.3 seconds left. Arizona (8-0) rallied from a poor-shooting first half and a couple of deficits in the second half to force overtime. Brandon Ashley had 14 points in the Wildcats’ 26th straight home win. GREEN BAY 68, NO. 15 MIAMI 55: At Coral Gables, Fla., Carrington Love scored a career-high 20 points, and Green Bay deployed an effective zone defense in the second half on the way to the road win. Miami (8-1) scored only one basket in the first 12 minutes of the second half. It shot a season-low 33 percent, including 5 for 20 from 3-point range. NJIT 72, NO. 17 MICHIGAN 70: At Ann Arbor, Mich., Damon Lynn made a critical 3-pointer and finished with 20 points to help New Jersey Institute of Technology get the upset. Willis Winfield and Ky Howard had 17 points apiece for the only independent basketball program in Division I. The Highlanders (3-5) went 11 for 17 from 3-point range. Women No. 17 OREGON ST. 109, SACRAMENTO ST. 61: At Corvallis, Deven Hunter had 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists, and Oregon State broke the school record for assists. The Beavers (7-0) shot 57.1 percent from the field with assists on 40 of their 45 field goals. The previous record was 34, set against Pacific Christian on Jan. 9, 1982. Ruth Hamblin had a double-double at the break and finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. The Beavers led 60-23 at halftime on the way to their 14th straight home win.
