Forecasters said the back-to-back systems, expected to arrive Wednesday and Thursday, also could bring almost two inches of rain to parts of the valley over several days. "It's events kind of stitched together because they're happening so close together," meteorologist Charles Smith said . And together, they could make this the wettest week of the season so far. "It's definitely more rain than what we've been seeing," Smith said. "It's going to be a lot of rain in a short period of time." The first system — the weaker of the two — is expected to arrive Wednesday morning, along with some wind. Sustained wind speeds of 15 to 17 mph are predicted, with gusts of 25 mph, Smith said. Snow levels are forecast to drop to 6,000 feet. The stronger system is expected to hit Thursday. Snow levels are forecast to drop to about 4,000 feet and possibly lower. Smith said anywhere from a foot to 17 inches of snow could end up falling on Mount Ashland Thursday into late Friday, and the Siskiyou Pass likely will see snow, too. "Mount Ashland should get a good mix of rain and snow," Smith said. The storms are expected to be harder on the Curry County coast, where up to seven inches of rain is predicted to fall by Saturday.
