How the rose-like, flamboyant charms of a woman won a man from his lily-like wife is pictured in "The Lily and the Rose." Lillian Gish, who stars in "The Birth of a Nation" plays the part of Mary Dolph, the sweet southern lily, and Rozsika Dolly, of the famous Russian dancers, the Dolly sisters, that of the Rose. Mack Sennett, adept at satirizing everything under the sun, burlesques the crook and detective story in "The Great Vacuum Robbery," the Triangle-Keystone comedy. Some of Mack Sennett's cleverest funmakers are presented in the east, notably Charles Murray and Slim Summerville as a pair of detectives. LOCAL AND PERSONAL W. R. Scott, vice president and general manager of the Southern Pacific company, passed south in his private car Del Monte Friday night, returning from attendance at the opening of the Coos Bay railroad. F. L. Burckhalter, superintendent of the Portland division, accompanied him. A full attendance greeted the new bandmaster at the practice Friday night. The band men are enthusiastic over the success promised and made possible by the generous assistance of the people of Medford and they express gratitude to the Greater Medford club for its most progressive interest in the new organization. Monday and Thursday nights of each week will be practice nights hereafter. State Deputy Engineer T. M. Davis drove from Portland to Medford in his auto, arriving here Friday evening. Saturday he went up the highway to the Siskiyou grade, where a slide occurred some days ago, prepared to repair the break at once. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Irwin of Prospect, are Medford visitors during the latter part of this week, with headquarters at the Holland.
