The Black Tornado got strong performances from three freshmen and registered a 39-34 home victory over Klamath Union. North finished 3-4 in the SOC. "We bumped our lineup around to get ready for the district tournament coming up in a week," North Medford assistant coach John Beck said. "We wanted to get the most and the best matches we could." Black Tornado freshmen Josh Smith (135) and Chris Platt (140) won with pins, and Jon Ulrey picked up a 10-5 decision against highly regarded Joe Brandsness at 103 pounds. "Our freshmen are doing some real good things," said Beck. "They’re wrestling at a high level. They have to be considered dark horses to go to state." The most compelling match of night was at 189, where Robert Kincaid won a 5-3 decision over North’s Rob Folsom, who moved up two weight classifications. Kincaid’s takedowns were the difference in the match pitting ranked wrestlers. Folsom is ranked second in the state at 160, Kincaid fourth at 189. "It was a good way to end the dual season," said Beck. "We just hope to keep improving going into the district tournament." 103 — Jon Ulrey, NM, dec. Dana Sword, 12-2; 152 — Josh Sabo, KU, pinned Kyle Wells, 1:40. 160 — Jimmy Ulrey, NM, pinned Drew Smith, 2:40; 171 — Justin Stancliff, NM, won by forfeit; 189 — Robert Kincaid, KU, dec. Rob Folsom, 5-3; 215 — Jim Lancaster, KU, won by forfeit; 275 — Denver Lancaster, KU, pinned Brandon Weston, 3:07. CRATER 70, SOUTH MEDFORD 3 — At Central Point, Crater only lost one match in the dual and finished undefeated in the SOC. Crater registered nine falls in the match. At 112, Crater’s Bryon Kezer decisioned Jerry Deboer, 12-8. The two wrestler had previously split a pair of matches during the season. Crater’s Jeremy McLaughlin (140) completed the season with a 28-3 record, while Nate Gipson (130) and Bryson Gutches (125) both were 27-3. None of the loses were in Oregon. EAGLE POINT 58, GRANTS PASS 15 — At Eagle Point, Eagle Point registered five falls to complete the SOC dual season with a 6-1 record. Freshman Jake McCoy (112) and junior Shane Kell (135) highlighted the Eagles’ victory. McCoy rallied from a slow start and a 4-2 second-period deficit to post a 10-6 decision over Chris Hotch. Kell was leading Bradley Meredith by an 8-0 score when he pinned his Grants Pass foe at the 5:35 mark. Eagle Point picked up other falls from J.P.
