COURTS Purple Parrot robber sentenced Aguirre used black, plastic gun Comment By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune Posted Feb. 13, 2015 @ 5:13 pm By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune Posted Feb. 13, 2015 @ 5:13 pm » Social News A Medford man who used a black, plastic gun to rob a Purple Parrot has been sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison. Mark Gabriel Aguirre, 31, of the 600 block of Cherry Street, pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court. He has been held in the Jackson County Jail without bail since his arrest. According to Medford police, Aguirre entered a Purple Parrot bar inside an Elmer's Restaurant on Biddle Road on Jan. 5. He pulled up a hooded sweatshirt to cover his face and pointed a black, plastic, replica handgun at bartender Zachary Baldwin, demanding money and threatening to kill him. Baldwin gave Aguirre cash from a till drawer. Aguirre then demanded the contents of a safe while warning the bartender not to hit an alarm or he would kill him. Aguirre left the business with approximately $2,800 in cash and headed to Quality Inn and Suites on Biddle Road, where he changed his clothes, according to police. Within hours of the robbery, a citizen provided information identifying Aguirre as the suspect. He was seen in White City the afternoon of Jan. 6, and attempted to elude Jackson County Sheriff's Office deputies who responded. Aguirre ditched his vehicle and fled on foot, but was found and taken into custody that afternoon, police said. Police found a black, plastic, replica handgun in the vehicle, along with $560 in cash. They found another $105 on Aguirre, who admitted to the robbery, police said. Aguirre was ordered to pay $2,817.38 in restitution after he completes his prison sentence for the robbery. In 2012, he was found guilty of fourth-degree assault and acquitted of first-degree rape and strangulation charges in Jackson County Circuit Court. In 2010, Aguirre was convicted of fourth-degree assault in Jackson County Circuit Court after facing charges of second-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree assault, menacing and second-degree criminal mischief. An indictment for the case said he had been convicted at least three previous times for assaults involving domestic violence.
