Mustangs get back on track MEDFORD - The Medford Mustangs got back on the winning track Sunday beating the Grants Pass Nuggets in American Legion play at Miles Field. After having their 16-game winning streak snapped Saturday against Roseburg Doc Stewarts the Mustangs defeated the Nuggets 7-6. Travis Dunlap got the Mustangs off to a great start with a three-run home run, his ninth of the season, in the first inning. The Mustangs grabbed a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth only to surrender it as the Nuggets scored a run in each of the last two innings. Evan McArthur scored the winning run off a bases-loaded wild pitch. Chris Empio came on in the fifth inning and notched his seven win of the season. Dunlap went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, while Matt Smith and Tyler Engle each had two base hits. Scott Hyde led the Nuggets with two hits. Game 2 results not available at press time. MEDFORD STALLIONS 6, PLEASANT HILL 5 - At Eugene, the Medford Stallions earned the No. 2 seed from the Valley Southern Division into the Oregon Junior Baseball Division II tournament with a game-ending suicide squeeze bunt. Derek Martin started the rally with a triple. Nik Steinburg ran for Martin and came home on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Andy Card. Kyle Williamson led Medford with two hits and Paul Lecroy had three stolen bases. The Stallions play in the state tournament on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Willamette High School.
