Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend April 27, 2006 Charge added against robbery suspect By CHRIS CONRAD Mail Tribune Police have added an additional robbery charge against a Medford man believed responsible for a crime spree in the Biddle Road area earlier this year. Michael Jonathan Barrett, 31, remained lodged in the Jackson County Jail late Wednesday on two counts of second-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree theft and resisting arrest. He was held in lieu of $200,000 bail. The latest charge stems from the armed robbery of the Gas 4 Less at 2230 Biddle Road during the early morning hours of Dec. 22 of last year. He was originally arrested Feb. 14 and charged with the burglary of Witham's Truck Stop at 2339 Biddle Road and an armed robbery at Rogue Regency Inn at 2300 Biddle Road. Barrett was injured in a struggle with police following his capture that night. Officers were forced to subdue him with a stun gun, officials said. Advertisement After his arrest, detectives began developing leads connecting Barrett to a rash of burglaries and robberies that occurred along Biddle Road. "It became apparent that crime in that small area of town dropped significantly after he was arrested," Det. Sgt. Tim Doney said. Detectives are now curious if Barrett is responsible for two Purple Parrot robberies that happened in January and February. Both stores are located on Biddle Road. "We're certainly interested if anyone has information on his activities in that time frame," Doney said. The second holdup, at 940 Biddle Road, was made memorable by the suspect's primitive disguise ­-- a cardboard box. Two weeks earlier, on Jan. 24, a man wearing a ski mask robbed the store at 2000 Biddle Road. In addition, Barrett was recently charged with the Jan. 28 burglary of the Lakeway Veterinary Hospital at 2540 Crater Lake Highway, during which drugs were stolen, Doney said.
