The grant will be used to support a capacity-building project in which WinterSpring will build the leadership and governance capacity of its board to keep up with demand for grief support services to children, teens, families and adults. WinterSpring competed nationally with other childhood bereavement organizations for the funding. The New York Life Foundation created the Grief Reach program to help providers overcome barriers to bringing grief support services to youth not served by existing bereavement programs. Grief Reach grants totaling nearly $5 million have been awarded since the program’s inception in 2011. The New York Life Foundation has been one of the leading funders of the childhood bereavement field, investing more than $25 million to date in support of grieving children and their families. Winterspring offers services to people dealing with grief following the death of a loved one. Services include phone support, assessment, grief groups, referral and resource materials.
