Suspect in hatchet attack arrested by Medford police The man suspected of attacking his girlfriend and her estranged husband with a hatchet was arrested Thursday afternoon in Medford. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office reported that detectives of the Medford Street Gang and Drug Enforcement Unit located and arrested 51-one-year-old Jesse "Butch" Martin of White City on Crater Lake Avenue near Brookhurst Street. Martin was charged with first- and second-degree assault for allegedly attacking David Bruce Lindgren as he slept in a chair and Nancy Carol Bennett as she tried to help Lindgren. The attack occurred Tuesday in Bennett's White City home. Bennett's daughter, Sherrell Burton, has said Martin acted out of jealousy and rage because he suspected Lindgren and Bennett were getting back together. Lindgren, a carnival worker, suffered a broken jaw, fractured skull and cuts to his face. Bennett, a temporary laborer, had cuts to her face requiring stitches.
