Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Advertisement Email Story to a Friend April 22, 2006 Burch blasts help SOU tame Coyotes ASHLAND — Tanisha Burch homered twice and drove in six runs to help the Southern Oregon University softball team blast past Albertson College, 9-6 and 8-0, in a Cascade Conference doubleheader Friday. Burch smashed a go-ahead three-run blast in Game 1 and added a two-run shot in the second contest — her fifth and sixth homers of the season. Burch finished the twin bill 3-for-5. SOU (20-13, 8-6 CC) reached the 20-win plateau for the sixth consecutive season and extended its win streak to five by sweeping the Coyotes (13-18, 5-9 CC) for the third straight season in Ashland. The Raiders triggered the eight-run mercy rule in Game 2 by scoring four runs — all with two out — in the bottom of the fifth inning. Southern Oregon received complete-game pitching efforts from senior Julianne Cree and sophomore Alicia Caudill. In Game 1, Cree surrendered a two-out, two-run homer to Katie Zillner in the opening frame, but she didn’t allow another hit until the fifth. Cree (8-6) finished with an eight-hit, five- strikeout performance. Advertisement Caudill (6-2) yielded only two hits in Game 2 and benefited from a pair of double-plays in registering her second career shutout — SOU’s first blanking of an opponent in 18 games since March 19. Rock and freshman outfielder Deni Rowley each had three hits and scored three times for the Raiders. Second-place SOU caps a six-game homestand with an 11 a.m. conference twin bill against Eastern Oregon today.
