The big event is the tree-lighting ceremony at about 6:15 p.m., but there's lots to do beforehand. Children can play in jump houses and participate in a coloring contest starting at about 3:30 p.m. The traditional candy-cane hunt will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the grassy area at Pear Blossom Park at The Commons near the stage for kids under 12. Live music for all ages will follow. The Colonel Mustard band will perform until Santa arrives on stage at about 5 p.m. The 1965 classic "A Charlie Brown Christmas" will be shown at the Pear Blossom Stage until about 5:30 p.m., when live dance performances featuring three local youth troupes will entertain the crowd until the grand illumination at 6:15 p.m. SkyOak Financial will provide a space for photos with Santa starting after 5 p.m. at the corner of Bartlett and Fourth streets. Lithia Motors, whose headquarters are the cornerstone of The Commons, will provide prizes — including a bicycle — for the coloring contest. Winners will be announced during the tree-lighting ceremony. Starbucks is giving away free hot chocolate. The event is sponsored by Medford Parks and Recreation.
