October 29. 2014 6:21PM Medford stabbing suspect unfit to stand trial, sent to mental hospital The suspect in a stabbing earlier this month in The Commons in downtown Medford has been sent to the state mental hospital after being found unfit to stand trial. Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Kelly Ravassipour ordered Friday that Heather Marie Everman be transported to the Oregon State Hospital in Salem, following a determination that Everman was unfit for trial. Everman was found unfit to proceed during a hearing Oct. 23. Medford police arrested Everman, 25, after she allegedly stabbed 24-year-old Algie Paul Burdis without provocation around 8 p.m. Oct. 8 in Pear Blossom Park by the Lithia Motors building. Burdis was part of a group that had been sitting on a bench in the park when Everman approached and stabbed him in the back. Other members of the group knocked Everman and but didn't disarm her. She complied with officers' demands to drop the knife, officials said at the time of her arrest.
