Jeremy Douglas McGhee, 30, was driving a vehicle with two passengers at 3:35 a.m. when police pulled him over. Both passengers were booked on charges of hindering prosecution. The stop was made near the intersection of Cloverlawn Drive and Ponderosa Lane, according to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety. McGhee is now in the Josephine County Jail facing multiple charges, including second-degree assault related to the injuries suffered by Juan Granados-Gonzales of Grants Pass. Granados-Gonzales, 27, had just left work at Si Casa Xpress on Nov. 5, and was pulling onto Williams Highway when his car was struck by a stolen sport utility vehicle driven by McGhee, according to police. McGhee was fleeing an attempted traffic stop. The crash occurred moments after officers terminated the pursuit because of the danger of the chase, police said. The impact of the crash was so violent it knocked the engine out of the small sedan and seriously injured Granados-Gonzales, a married father of four who has been at Rogue Regional Medical Center ever since, in intensive care. After the crash, the driver of the stolen Denali fled on foot, escaping police dogs and officers, and had been on the lam for more than two weeks. McGhee, who has a long history of criminal activity including prison time for drug convictions, is facing charges of assault, attempting to elude, criminal mischief and methamphetamine possession in the case involving the crash. Previous charges included felon in possession of a firearm, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and meth possession. Another meth possession charge was added after this morning's stop. Additional charges are expected. Police did not identify the two passengers who were arrested with McGhee this morning. However, jail records show a Michael Shawn McGhee, 43, of Selma, and a Joseph Scott Mason, 23, of Selma, were booked this morning on charges of hindering police. Jail records indicate the men were taken into custody in the Cloverlawn area, the same area where McGhee was arrested. The community has rallied around Granados-Gonzales, coming up with $7,500 in donations in a benefit dinner last weekend at Hidden Valley High School in Murphy.
