Mason, Matchette net region, league honors ASHLAND Two Southern Oregon University woman athletes soccer player Tiffany Mason and volleyball player Kristina Matchett were named players of the week in both the region and the Cascade Conference. Mason, a freshman from Medford, became Southerns second Cascade Conference player of the week over the past three weeks and its first NAIA Region I player of the week by scoring five goals and assisting on two others in two Raider victories last week. The former South Medford High all-star set school game records for shots (10), goals (4), and game points (10) and tied the top assist mark (2) while leading the Raiders to a 7-0 thrashing of Oregon Tech on Sept. 26. She scored all three of the teams goals in the first half, including her first collegiate penalty kick seconds before halftime. Against Evergreen, Mason scored her team-best sixth goal of the year in the 27th minute and took another six shots in Sundays 5-1 victory. Matchett, a freshman from Klamath Falls, also earned NAIA Region I player of the week honors following Southerns weekend sweeps of Cascade, Northwest and Warner Pacific. The former Klamath Union all-star converted 28 of 45 attack attempts with only four miscues in the three wins for a whopping 53-percent efficiency. Against Warner Pacific, Matchett went 10-for-13 without an error for a 77-percent clip, one of the highest single-match percentages in school history.
