Cancer Society hosts Relay for Life at Expo CENTRAL POINT -- The American Cancer Society will host its eighth annual Relay for Life fund-raiser starting at 6 p.m. Friday at the Jackson County Exposition Park. The event features an all-night relay race and guest speakers including Dr. Gerald Dixon, Dr. Eric Martin and Jerry Spegman, government relations director for the American Cancer Society. Grand marshals are Willis Elam, a retired teacher from Griffin Creek Elementary School in Medford, and Judith Johnston, a registered nurse. Both have cancer that is in remission. Opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. Friday and include dinner and a reception for cancer survivors. Following the reception, a 15-hour race begins with teams of eight to 12 participants who will take laps around the track in relay fashion.
