Georgia Marie (Post) Ross Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 27, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Sep. 27, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Georgia Marie (Post) Ross March 14, 1920 - July 16, 2015 Mrs. Georgia Marie (Post) Ross, age 95, was born in Portland, Ore. March 14, 1920 and passed away peacefully July 16, 2015 in Tucson, Ariz. where she and her dog Riley lived for the past two and a half years. Georgia lived most of her life in Ashland, Ore. where she and her husband, Walter raised their two children, Laurel and Donald. Georgia attended Monmouth College attaining her degree as a teacher. Her career took her first to Pleasant Valley, then Tillamook, Jacksonville, and finally to Ashland School District where she taught various grades, mostly 7th and 8th grades. During her career she received the honor of "Teacher of the Year" for Southern Oregon, which brought her great pride as she loved her life as a teacher. She retired in 1982 from the Ashland School Dist. after a long, fulfilling career. Georgia's many interests and activities included traveling, RV-ing, and golfing with her husband, Walter, both being avid golfers into their later years, and she into her 90's. They were at one time part owners of Oak Knoll Golf Course, spending the winters in Pismo Beach, Calif. She was a volunteer at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, as a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She exercised at the Y into her 90s as well as going to the dog park twice a day. She called Bingo at the Linda Vista Nursing Home. She was also a member of the Book (and Lunch) Club. Georgia also volunteered as a tutor for many years, working with children who had reading difficulties as well as giving of her time as a member of the SMART program for the Ashland School District. Georgia was predeceased by her husband, Walter; brothers, Cedric, and Donald; and her grandson, Michael. She leaves behind her daughter, Laurel; her son, Donald (spouse Gay); seven grandchildren and their spouses; and 10 great-grandchildren. A "Celebration of Life" will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Calvin Room at the Presbyterian Church on Siskiyou and Walker in Ashland, Oregon.
