Robertson, Irons register qualifying marks EUGENE -- Southern Oregon University freshman Nicole Robertson was one of two Raiders who posted NAIA national qualifying marks Saturday at the University of Oregon Preview track and field meet at Hayward Field. Robertson won the discus with a personal-best throw of 138 feet, 4 inches. "It was a great performance," Southern Oregon coach Dale Fisher said. "We expected her to throw well. We really think she will be very good. We're setting her sights on having the school record by the end of this year." Robertson also finished eighth in the javelin (118-4). The other SOU national qualifier was sophomore pole vaulter Nicole Irons, who cleared 10-4. Former North Medford track standout Mat Davis had a good day on the track with a victory in the 200 meters and a third in the 400. Davis narrowly missed the national qualifying standard in both events. His time in the 400 was 48.44 seconds and 21.87 in the 200. "He's definitely on his way," said Fisher. "He was extremely strong in both those races. He was most impressive in the 200 because it follows the 400. It was a terrific performance." Other Southern Oregon athletes competing were Leo Stoddard (eighth pole vault, 13-9); Jake Nickerson (fourth discus, 139-11); Bob Metcalf (sixth hammer throw, 162-5); Lindsay Hikade (eighth 800, 2:23.24); Robyn Sutherland (eighth 1,500, 4:44.44); Vanessa Curry (23rd 1,500, 5:18.69); Julie Brand (24th 1,500, 5:27.98); Rebeka Julian (23rd 3,000, 11:12.37); Alison Garich (25th 3,000, 11:18.76); Sara Wesby (eighth pole vault, 9-0); and Kim Berovic (seventh javelin, 123-5). Two former Ashland High runners -- Molly Luman and Sarah Brandy -- competed in the meet. Luman finished fifth in the 800 (2:20.45) for the University of Oregon, while Brandy placed 12th in the 1,500 (4:48.69) for the University of Portland.
