Jeffrey Robert Zundel, 52, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student between March 1 and June 9, the Jackson County District Attorney's Office reported. The girl was younger than 18 and therefore not legally able to consent. Thursday's indictment charges Zundel with 11 counts of second-degree sexual abuse linked to sexual intercourse and deviate sexual intercourse and one count of third-degree sexual abuse linked to other sexual contact. Unlike first-degree sexual abuse, second and third-degree sexual abuse are not Measure 11 crimes and carry no mandatory minimum sentences. The prosecutor's office reported that the indictment would be filed with Jackson County Circuit Court on Monday, Nov. 9, and Zundel was tentatively set to be indicted Nov. 27. He was arrested Oct. 26 and has been out on bail since then. School district officials said they received a sexual misconduct complaint against Zundel on Oct. 26, called police and placed him on administrative leave. Zundel is the husband of Michelle Zundel, chief academic officer with the Medford School District and a former Ashland High School principal.
