Nicholson, of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, has recommended that all Elks lodges throughout the United States should have a roll call of all members on the occasion of the first regular meeting of the lodge in January, 1916. In order to comply with this recommendation, the annual roll call of Medford Lodge will be held Thursday evening, January 6. Every brother who is unable to attend this roll call meeting will be expected to send an excuse in writing to the lodge, stating the reason why he is unable to attend. Medford Camp No. 99, W. O. W. will enjoy a special program at its regular meeting at Althea hall this evening, the occasion being the official visit of District Manager D. J. Beakey, of Portland. Besides the regular work of the session, including the initiation of a large class, refreshments will be served and a jolly time enjoyed in an after-session period of social converse. A $50 cash prize will go to the camp having the largest percentage of its membership present on the night of the visit of the district manager. Manager Beakey's presence here tonight makes this the contest occasion for Medford camp. It is hoped that a large attendance of the local membership will greet the visiting official this evening. It will be their last chance to win the prize. D. Walter Morton, of Eugene, much interested in fruits and fruit markets, is enjoying a few days of investigation in this part of Rogue river valley this week and interested in the state teachers' convention proceedings as well. Mr. Morton will return to this valley in the near future and complete investigations under way, the result of which may be that he will become vitally interested here. He has some acquaintance with prominent fruitists in this valley. They are urging him to become part of the Rogue river country enthusiasts.
