The head-on collision sent two people to the hospital. Jackson County Fire District 3 officials responded to the crash at 7:07 a.m., according to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon Dispatch logs. One car caught fire and spilled gas across the roadway. District 3 spokeswoman Ashley Lara said accidents at the site are fairly common. The intersection is on a sharp curve where one road turns into the other. "It's kind of a dangerous intersection," she said. Both vehicles had one occupant each, a man and a woman. Both were outside their vehicles by the time firefighters arrived. The fire was extinguished quickly. The drivers were transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center with "moderate" injuries, Lara said. Emergency crews remained on the scene cleaning up the debris and fuel that spilled. Jackson County Sheriff's Department deputies turned vehicles around until about 8:46 a.m., when the road reopened, department officials said.
