Mail Tribune / Bob Pennell Driver hospitalized after UPS truck crash A United Parcel Service truck driver was in serious condition Monday after his truck hit a guardrail and crashed along Highway 140 about 12 miles east of White City. Theodore Allen Botello, 48, of Alturas, Calif., was listed Monday in serious condition with unspecified injuries in the intensive-care unit of Providence Medford Medical Center, a hospital nursing supervisor said. The Oregon State Police said Botello possibly suffers from a medical condition that could have attributed to the one-truck crash. However, troopers did not elaborate on his condition, nor did they talk with Botello, the OSP said. Botello was driving his truck and hauling double trailers east on Highway 140 when the truck and trailers left the right side of the road about 10:50 a.m., according to the OSP. The truck tore through about 140 feet of guardrail before it careened over an embankment, through an Oregon Department of Transportation fence and came to rest upright about 200 feet from the roadway, according to the OSP. One of the truck’s trailers was empty, and another was only partially full of parcels, according to a UPS employee at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, the OSP said. No citations were issued, and the accident remains under investigation, police said.
