Scattered throughout town and throughout the day, the events include Gold Hill's Music and Arts Festival sponsored by civic club Can-DO; the museum's Gold Dust Day; Del Rio Vineyards and Winery's art show and wine tasting; and a wine and cheese tasting event at Laurel Hill Golf Course. The latter will include an extensive auction to benefit the rebuilding of the Wimer Covered Bridge. "This should make for a fun day," said Councilman Tom Daily. "A Taste of the Valley" will feature samples of wine, cheese, chocolate, pastries and more from throughout the Rogue and Umpqua valleys. All proceeds from the Laurel Hill fundraiser will benefit Citizens for Rebuilding the Wimer Covered Bridge, a nonprofit organization that has been raising money to rebuild the bridge since the historic landmark collapsed into Evans Creek in July 2003, says Chairman Dan Roberts. Hundreds of items will be up for silent and live auction, including guided fishing trips on the Rogue River, a four-hour, six-person limousine tour of local wineries offered by a Taste of Honey, and a chance to get up close and personal with the process of winemaking thanks to one local winery, said Roberts. Troon Vineyards will offer a "barrel tour" which will include not only a private tour of the Applegate winery, but also a glimpse into the art and science of wine making — as well as an extensive sampling of wine in various aging stages, he said. Troon's donation is valued at $600, said Roberts. "I am told that's a very exclusive event," said Roberts. Local artists Mary Geller and Pat Tracy have painted renditions of the covered bridge and donated their work for auction. Geller's original oil, framed in material salvaged off the historic bridge, has been donated for auction by the artist. Signed prints of both paintings also will be available for sale. Just outside of town, Del Rio Vineyards and Winery will showcase artwork in a variety of media from 35 Oregon artists. Appetizers will be offered and Sound Traditions will provide the live music background to the afternoon event. Wine tasting is available for a fee. In town, the second annual Music and Arts Festival on Second Avenue will feature everything from 150-year-old sourdough starter pancakes to artwork from local artists to music by Butch Martin and the Rogue Valley Riders, Bear Creek Jazztet and Banned. For a taste of history, visitors to the Gold Hill Museum can enjoy wagon rides, gold panning, Native American basket weaving and butter churning, says Daily. The museum's Gold Dust Day celebration also offers bake sale treats and an arts and crafts bazaar, Daily says.
